The Spirit gives people the kind of character that God wants, which is much more than what the law requires (cf. Gal. 5:22-23). The Law can teach us what God wants and show us what is wrong, but it can&#8217;t make us less sinful or give us the power to live in God&#8217;s will. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit can clean, change, empower, and inspire us in ways that the law can&#8217;t (Romans 8:1-4; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18).
